Snecma Atar is an aircraft turbojet engine with afterburners from the French Cold War period. The first successful engine start-up took place in 1948. In the Atar 9C version, the engine was 590 cm long with a diameter of 100 cm. The weight of the "dry" power unit was 1,456 kilograms. The thrust generated by this engine was up to 42 kN, and with the afterburner - to 58.9 kN. The Snecma Atar engine was largely developed based on the plans of the German jet engine from the declining period of World War II - BMW 018. Moreover, many German engineers from BMW plants, who previously worked on jet engines, were involved in the development of Snecma Atar. Ultimately, a successful turbojet engine was created, which was subjected to many modernizations in the 1950s and 1960s. The Snecma Atar engine has been used on several French combat aircraft from the Dassault aviation plant, including: Etendard IV, Mirage III, Mirage F.1 or Super Mystere.
